Jacob with Online Dating Stories commented on my post Getting the Most out of Commentluv and mentioned the do-follow issue. I’ll take this opportunity to talk about the dofollow gift we give to others by becoming a do-follow blog!
In order to fight spammers, WordPress has a no follow attribute that was introduced by search engines and key blogging software in 2005 in an effort to discourage comment spam. It’s all about search engine optimization (SEO) and we want to give the gift of backlinks to the visitors and commenters on our blog and it’s simple to do.
Do Follow Plugin For WordPress
The dofollow plugin for WordPress lets you remove the evil nofollow attribute from your comments. With the dofollow plugin downloaded and activated, nofollow will not work.
You add the Do Follow plugin just like you do other plugins. When you’re on the Dashboard, on the left side about half way down you’ll see “Plugins”. Click there and the Plugins window will open and you’ll see the ‘Add New’ tab. Click and the Install Plugins page will open. You’ll see the Search box, Select TERM from the drop down menu and type in “DoFollow”. A list of plugins will appear, select the first one with a five star rating and click on install on the right side under Actions. While it’s installing the page will change where you can read more about the plugin. You’ll see ‘INSTALL NOW’ on the upper right side, click there. When it’s installed you’ll be sent to the final page where you’ll see: Action ‘Activate Plugin’ and click there.
When leaving a comment on a do-follow blog with the Commentluv plugin, you have an automatic backlink to your blog!
Dofollow and commentluv are two plugins essential for blogging success!

I have had dofollow for every one of my blogs for years. I love Commentluv because it gets people to participate in the blogging process, and I always reward those people. Sure, there are spammers but we deal with them.

Not really. When you have a good spam protection plugin like Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin activated the spam rarely makes it to your dashboard. You can read about it here: http://lindagraceonline.com/stop-spam-wordpress-growmap-anti-spambot-plugin/ ~ let me know how it goes for you.

It does, a lot. And I agree with you, it is essential for a blog to be able to distinguish the difference between those two, and use them in a way that benefits them the most. Also commentluv premium just went on a sale recently, might be worth checking it out.

I think that dofollow/nofollow is the same as good/bad publicity. As long as it’s there it can’t be bad. SEO says that dofollow is the right path, but i would like to be mentioned in wikipedia even as a nofollow.
September 26th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
In the end, i don’t think it matters. Dofollow links are so rare that they get lost in the crowd, and linkbuilding for too many of them will get you penalized anyway.

My percentage of NF links far outweigh my DF links 90/10, and yet my site is still a PR4 and ranking well in search engines.

@maxhine07: CommentLuv blogs don’t necessarily have to be dofollow, but the CommentLuv plugin also deep links to your latest blog post.
I have good experience from dofollow blogs. As long as you read the blog post and provide a useful comment, it’s all good. Some blogs have been heavily spammed which of course is bad, but most bloggers keep after their blogs.
If you take your time to read through the posts then you will stumble upon a lot of great information, some that can enrich your life and the blogger gets a lot of comments – so everybody wins!

A do follow link is a wonderful gift to give quality commentators. Although it admittedly means harsher moderating.
I installed the stop forum spam plugin and that had dramatic positive effects for me. Although it was initially designed for forums, it’s also great with blogs and check registrants / commentators against several spammer databases.

I think you need backlinks from both dofollow and nofollow blogs, not just for SEO purposes but because it’s a more natural way to build links. As we grow our online businesses, we want to be involved in a community, and share our insights. Sometimes that will get you a dofollow backlink, sometimes it might lead to a guest post or a new twitter connection. I think it’s a mistake to discount NF links as useless and seek out DF links only.

To be honest, I have many blogs that use keywordluv/commentluv, which many people will say attracts a lot of spam. However, with good moderation, you can weed out all the spam and instead what you’re attracting is people who actually want to add to the conversation in a meaningful way. For these people, I have no problem giving them a dofollow backlink in exchange.
In the end, I completely agree making your blog dofollow is really great for you. Thanks for a cool post
October 9th, 2011 at 2:11 am
Commentluv is a great plugin, however. People that build links to their site should not only try to build just aim for dofollow links. A mix of both dofollow an nofollow is the most natural.
But if you want people to comment more on your own blog this is a great plugin. I don´t use it on all my sites but on some sites.
Regards.

I like to visit a blog that is a do-follow blog and that is one of the great advantage of a do-follow blog that you can get many visitors and keep visiting your blog to do comments.
The disadvantage is the spammers but it can be fix, as an owner of the blog, you can make your blog enable for moderation when they do a comment.

I don’t understand why some people are still worried about no-follow tags. In my opinion, when we place a link in comment or elsewhere, then we need to consider it as an advertisement of products & services not for any kind of optimization. And nofollow links are not totally useless. According to my experience, my website & blog receives a targeted traffic mostly from those websites where I placed link but tags is nofollow.

Yes for sure back link attribute matters a lot in SEO and website ranking. Do follow are the best to get then of NO follow back link. So we must try to get the Do follow all the time then of No follow. But in case of link exchange try to give no follow link to other’s. And why do we need to do such is already discussed in the article in details.

Hi Linda, and everyone else.
For those who are a bit confused to what no-follow and do-follow actually do for your site:
Dofollow html attributes state that you allow the search engine bots to follow and pass link juice (page rank) to the link’s target page.
Nofollow html attributes state that you do not allow search engine bots to follow a link or pass link juice (page rank) to the link’s target page.

You can’t expect your figure to go back to your pre-pregnancy shape straight after birth! Its takes time for the womb and your stomach to re-adjust to its normal size. Expect it to be around 4 weeks. Expect to lose around 13 pounds after the birth. This gives you around 12 to 22 pounds to lose. A reasonable target to lose this weight is 8 months. Losing 1 or 2 pounds a week is an easier proposition.

It has been interesting to follow your discussion about spammers. I am trying to filter out all spammers from my personal blog, but in some cases I am not sure who is a spammer and who is “real”. My conclusion, after many years of blogging, is that there is no clear border between spammers and real users. I therefore accept all comments that don’t hurt the discussion. Intelligent spamming is all fine
November 12th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
I just got dofollow on several of my blog and it has given many more comments.
what is spam and can not be discussed, but I do so that it is a good comment retain the link. a bad comment I delete completely.
but it is an interesting topic, I am nevertheless of the view that the comments gives life to the blog and therefore a positive thing if the comments are not always on top.

Dofollow and Nofollow are two important factors among many SEO Ranking Factors that influence the ranking of a particular blog/site in search engines. Let’s see some areas where these dofollow and nofollow tags/links are highly applicable.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:53 am
Many use the Page rank of a website to estimate the value of that particular site when buying/selling links. Google mainly provides good page rank for the websites that have quality incoming links (back-links) from another site. The more back-links you have (quality), the higher the pagerank you will receive from Google.
November 20th, 2011 at 8:35 pm
I think it’s funny that you refer to the nofollow attribute as “evil”. Surely it set out to accomplish something useful, even if users twisted it for other purposes. That’s like calling baseball evil ’cause you could beat someone with the bat.

I agree that it’s a good idea to get some nofollow comment backlinks as well. If you just comment on those blogs that you are interested in, then you’re sure to get a mix of both kinds of links.
Another way to get a combination is to post free classified ads that allow backlinks. The vast majority are nofollow, although some are dofollow.

I agree with the prior comment as to the do-follow blogs. They are rare these days but are still there; the problem is that too much spamming eventaully had most blog owners turn the comment feature off alltogether. I review baby-strollers on my site, for example the mini city jogger stroller and turned commenting off on my blog.

I absolutely believe that do follow links are much more important than no follow links but I still believe their is some value in no follow. I believe there is seo value because it is still a signal even if a search engine does not trace the link completely.
The no follow link can also be clicked on as well and drive traffic.
January 10th, 2012 at 9:53 pm
A DoFollow link option simply means that a link placed on a page or a site will be recognised by Google and used to assess ranking. It can then be evaluated from a value perspective. Placing this kind of link to one of your own pages from an external reputable website can have a good impact on how it is viewed by search engines.
A NoFollow link, however, may be seen by Google but it will not then be used as a factor when it ranks a page. Basically, DoFollows can add value; NoFollows are ignored.

I think that dofollow/nofollow is the same as good/bad publicity. As long as it’s there it can’t be bad. SEO says that dofollow is the right path, but i would like to be mentioned in wikipedia even as a nofollow. Thank you.
