The Power of Now – how it began for me

Honesty, Personal Development

In 1989 Lori, my sister-in-law and I were the founders of the SPWC, the Strong and Powerful Women’s Club. I was 25 years old and Lori was 15. We were wise beyond our years. We understood that we needed to be totally honest with ourselves and we could see that most people weren’t. It wasn’t until 10 years later that I read The Power of NOW by Eckhart Tolle. And I heard him say, “If we are able to be fully present and take each step in The Now; If we are able to feel the reality of such things as opening ourselves to such things as the inner-body, surrender, forgiveness, and the un manifested, we will be opening ourselves to the transforming experience of The Power of Now.”  In the Now, in the absence of time, all your problems dissolve.  Suffering needs time; it cannot survive in the Now

Our Strong and Powerful Women’s Club was for us, the beginning of living in the Now!

Tell me how your journey of awareness began.  Do you feel happier life living in the Now?

    Hi Linda,

Thank you for this thought provoking post. I am going to take you up on the challenge and try to think clearly when the journey of awareness began.

I feel it was when I was very young, but life kept knocking me of balance. I always knew that I was different from my peers. I never followed the latest craze, advertisement and the media had little effect on me. I knew that there was always more to life than learning, Math, English and Science at School. I just didn’t understand why all the adults where following each other like lost sheep all going through the same process in life.

Only now can I see that I wasn’t wrong or different in a bad way…but in an enlightened way.

Thank you for getting my memories flowing.
    Beth :-)

Quite thought provoking indeed. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher of children. That’s what working moms should do,right? I did teach K-3 for 20 years. Now I know that it is teaching I love but I enjoy educating people in a different way now. By educating others on how to be and stay healthy, I am teaching them how to live more successfully. Being the trusted Health Expert is my way of giving back to anyone that wants my advice.
    Great post Linda!

    Linda,
This is one of my all-time favorite books. I go back to it often when I stray from the “Now”. Eckhart Tolle always gives new insight and powerful assistance to grow in a positive, thoughtful way.

Wish this book was in school curriculums. It would change our world!

Amazing post Linda! I love the book The Power of Now.
It has truly had a significant impact on my journey.
I constantly strive and purpose to live in the present moment.
To experience things as they happen with great learning from the past and bright hope for the future. I love the idea he has in the book about everything happening in the now. The past, present, and future things all have happened are happening or will happen in the now, the moment in which we will experience it. That is very freeing for me. No need to worry. Thanks again for such a great post.

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
    -ed

It’s so fun to hear of the impact that The Power of Now has had on others! I tried to explain it to my closed-minded friends :) and they just couldn’t get it! I keep saying eternal truth is eternal truth no matter what it’s packaged in!

    Linda,
I first started reading the Power of Now a few years ago and could not understand all the implications. Now, it all makes more sense. Amazing how a mind shift can open up new worlds and allow you to receive. Thanks for sharing this,

I agree! I had the same experience! I made it through about the first 2/3 of the book and that was all the information that I could understand. A while later it all made sense!

I think my introduction to the power of now came with Ram Das’ book from the 1960′s, Be Here Now. I don’t remember the words in the book. I just remember being struck by the concept as a way to overcome problems and suffering. Tonight I just interviewed Dr. Steve Taubman, hypnotist, magician and business coach. When asked about how to unlock your subconscious, his response was to first quiet your mind, focus and be in the present, in other words, be here now. Instead of judging and suffering over what is happening in the present moment, become the witness, and unemotionally just observe and reflect upon what is happening in this moment, in this next moment, and in the next moment. Everything changes when it is observed in the moment.
