Set your goals, then work to exceed them.
“Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.”
Mindtools is a wonderful site with hundreds of free resources to help you with your goal setting and career building.
It all starts with a dream.
Turn dreams into goals – goals turn into plans- plans turn into reality.
The process of life planning begins with the simple exercise of trying to imagine where and what you would like to be on a specific date from today.
Think of your ideal life 10 years from now.
What would you like to have accomplished;
What would you like to be able to do;
What sort of person would you like to be;
What kind of relationships would you like to have with your friends, with your family, with yourself;
Where would you like to be spiritually;
What sort of environment would you like to be in at home, at work??
Create a “Dream Board,” a collage or collection of what you dream of in your future.
First: Get a large poster board, glue or two sided tape, and scissors.
Second: Collect pictures from magazines, pictures that show where you want to be, what you want to look like, what you want to have or how you want to feel. Paste them on the poster board and have fun with this!
Third: Get a picture of yourself that you really like, and paste it in the middle of the board so you see yourself surrounded by your dreams!
Fourth: Place the Dream Board in a visible place, above your desk, or on your bulletin board. Some place where you will see it every day. Take a few minutes at the beginning of every morning and again every night to keep your dreams in the front of your mind. Identifying your dreams is the first step in making your dreams come true!
Go wild! Have fun with it! The sky is the limit, it’s your dreams!
Have you already created your Dream Board? If not, now is a good time to create. Dream big and make it happen!

Great idea, I always have photos of my dreams and goals around me at all times, even in my car. At first I never did understand goals and dreams, I set them all the time and never accomplished them.
It wasn’t until I started to hold myself accountable for them and reward myself for achieving them, that I really started to watch them become reality.
Thanks for sharing.

It’s fun to hear that you naturally knew to collect pictures and look at them regularly! Don’t you love watching your dreams become a reality? I know I do!

LInda G,
Thanks so much for sharing this. Dreams seem to be the theme this week. And visualizing them with a Dream Board sounds like a grand project for me for this summer. My big dream is to be geographically independent, so that I can work/play wherever I choose to be. That’s why I’ve been working so hard on my Telecourse.
Thanks,
Adam

It’s wild isn’t it? It must be in the air! Without talking to the others, the message is the same in our posts!

Linda,
You’ve now reminded me to drag out my dream board and revise it. I love the specific questions you’ve asked that will help in visualizing and defining goals for a 10-year period. It’s really fun to dream …

Great idea having a dreamboard. I’ve tried this in the past but haven’t done another one in ages so it has jogged my memory to do it again. Thanks for waking me up to this.

Great post Linda.
The first step is achieving our wildest goals and dreams is to let our imagination run wild. Many people restrict themselves in this stage by getting caught up in what is realistic or what others may think.

The absolute best blog software to use to create a beautiful blog is WordPress.org. But first, you need to get a gravatar! You need a picture connected to your comments! I created a tutorial to show you this free and simple tool! I’ll email it to you too!

Hi Linda,
Thanks for this inspiring post. Youth should be made aware of this. They should make their dreamboard since they are still young. They should turn their dreams into goals and make some necessary actions in order to achieve that. More power!

Jeff,
I agree! I think teaching kids when their young is easier than ‘convincing’ people when they’re older! I hope I’ve taught mine enough!

Hi Linda – I love reading your posts! You’re really brilliant in motivating other people. It’s truly important to dream and turn that dream into goals. I think this is really effective. The problem with me is I never get contented and I keep on dreaming after achieving each of my goals…

Unquestionably consider that that you said. Your favourite justification appeared to be on the web the simplest factor to be mindful of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people think about worries that they plainly do not recognize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also defined out the entire thing without having side effect , other folks can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you

These are the great steps in goal setting. When all of these are in place the last and most important things to do is taking action. Without action, all is in vain. All preparation and planning will be useless.
