Cheryl Cole gives a dazzling smile as she arrives in Los Angeles. The Girls Aloud singer touched down in LA and almost looked surprised to see photographers waiting.
The 27-year-old was admitted to the hospital when she picked up the malaria virus following a trip to Tanzania with her dancer pal Derek Hough.
Cheryl is planning to become a charity ambassador to help fight malaria in Africa after her battle with the disease. Cheryl Cole speaks of her battle with Malaria, telling Piers Morgan it was ‘so scary’ to have picked up the life threatening bug.
Malaria is caused by a parasite that is transmitted from one person to another by the bite of infected mosquitoes, causing high fevers, shaking chills, flu-like symptoms and anemia. The parasites travel to the liver then on to the red blood cells. Malaria can be fatal within a few hours of the first symptoms.
Bob Steed, a full time humanitarian, arrived in Africa, eager to be of service to the children. He told his story, “I was asked to spend time in a makeshift tent hospital set up to care for malaria patients. It was very difficult to see people suffering through various stages of this illness, especially knowing that a simple mosquito net could have prevented this disease.”
“One wing of the hospital was set aside for children in the last stages of life. The assignment to hold the small, quivering hands of those children as they pass away is the toughest assignment in the humanitarian experience. You can take strength only from knowing that, at very least, they are no longer suffering.”
Charitable Organizations are partnering to provide the mosquito nets to prevent malaria.
At the cost of only $6, we can protect a Kenyan child from malaria by contributing to the Trivani Mosquito Net Fund.
The Trivani Foundation, a philanthropic arm of global product seller Trivani International, has partnered with Koins for Kenya to provide mosquito nets for children in the African country. Koins was created to reduce the catastrophic number of Kenya deaths by way of mosquito-borne Malaria.
Trivani’s Purpose is focused primarily on humanitarian aid in underdeveloped areas around the world. This focus is evident in everything they do, especially in the many humanitarian projects they have already implemented in areas such as Nepal, Kenya, and Cambodia.
Trivani is creating compassion through consumption. Children around the world are dying needlessly from starvation, malaria and inadequate water. Trivani is a company with a heart and soul that is creating a humanitarian army around the globe.
With Trivani, the giving doesn’t stop with mosquito netting, you can even sponsor a child – not a faceless statistic — but a real, specific child you’ll come to love – by providing the food, clothing, medicine, and education he or she needs to live a full and successful life.
Just like my friend, Don Enck said, “Together we can help spread the love.” We can make the world a better place, in whatever way suits us - whether it is with Mosquito Nets for African children, volunteering in our children’s class or simply smiling at a passer-by. Let’s take a step in improving the lives of those around us.
With Trivani, you have the opportunity to reach out to millions of people living in unhealthy and impoverished communities around the world.

Linda,
Thank you for sharing how this company is working to change and improve the conditions in the world. It’s easy to find so many places that can be improved upon. There are so many unfortunate people all over. They’re right here in our own backyard with the homeless and abused. We have areas within our country that children are starving. And of course, there are many places in other countries that a little bit can go a long way to improving living conditions.
I’m glad that you have connected with a company that is doing something that touches your heart and the hearts of so many others. Thanks for the “plug’…yes, together we can help spread the love…

Linda,
It is difficult to see so many areas of the world that have loss and starvation. How rewarding it would be to save just one child from the grips of malaria or hunger. What a perfect way to give added purpose to our own life—by sharing with someone who doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from.
It is easy to focus on how slim my wallet seems to be. After reading your article, I realize how selfish that is. We have untold resources. You’ve found a phenomenal way to spread the love and pay it forward. Your service will be richly rewarded!

Linda that is an excellent concept. I had a friend who had Malaria many many years ago who had debilitating symptoms for years. It feels so good to support some of these causes.
I also love to see companies running these type of programs. There is still so much suffering in many parts of the world. Hey and I grumble about a computer problem!!
A great post Linda.

I agree Sue! When we look around and see what is outside of our world, our perspective changes. I have always felt helpless. I remember telling my children when they weren’t eating all the food they dished up for themselves, “There are children starving in Africa!” It’s a joke now to hear kids say, “Send this to them.” I never saw any humor in it, but I had no way to make a difference. Now I do!

Isn’t it a shame that all that’s preventing some poor soul from catching malaria is a $6 mosquito net?
I’ve been sponsoring children through World Vision for over twenty years now and I love all the good work they are doing. The money is used to educate villages how to grow their own food, provide fresh water or anything else that they feel is needed in the community.

Of course having the Mosquito Nets to start is a simple yet effective way to prevent this disease from taking hold of so many lives.

Hi Linda
I have known a few people who have suffered from malaria. My partner has been to Kokoda a few times and each time has to take malaria tablets. The kokoda track was rife with malaria when Australian soldiers went there to fight in the 40′s. They were so ill prepared all the malaria tablets disintegrated from the humidity and the soldiers had no protection. Your post has made me think about recently when I went through defense training with RAAF we were all given mosquito nets for our faces to protect from the mosquitoes in the training area where we were going. After the 4 weeks exercise most of us went back to our civilian lives and probably threw away the net. We could not hand it back in for health safety reasons. If only these nets could all be given to these children where they are really needed. I am going to follow that up and see what can be done with all the left over nets.

When I spent my time in Africa, the lack of education and resources was heartbreaking to see. But at the same time it was clear the smallest gesture can make a world of difference and your mosquito nets at $6 each are a prime example of this. Thank you for the reminder.

Felt good that Cheryl Cole is supporting the fight against the Malaria but it seems very awful that unless and until no celebrity is affected these programs go unnoticed. $6 is really very small contribution for fight against malaria. People should always be forthcoming in such type efforts because their small gestures are enough to save a innocent life on the earth.

Good for her, trying to help the poor people of Tanzania. But why did it even take a mosquito bite to make her realize that other people need help too? Anyway, the cases of malaria in some of the third world countries are a little disturbing, commonly in Africa. Although we do have a lot of groups that are already helping but it is never enough to conquer the virus, maybe just a little more help will get us over that hump.

I wish there was a more efficient way to take care of this. I’m not saying $6 in and of itself is a lot, but I assure you, they aren’t going to be running out of mosquitoes any time soon. Improving general living conditions for the community would have a two-fold effect as it would also reduce the areas of stagnant water where the mosquitoes nest and breed.
It also makes me sad that this sort of thing has been going on for years and years, but it only becomes a big deal after someone in the spotlight is affected by it.
